About the role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Data Centre Operations Engineer to support the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and optimisation of our clients’ data centre environments. This role is critical to ensuring high availability, performance, and reliability of mission-critical infrastructure.
You will work hands-on with physical and virtual infrastructure, collaborating closely with internal teams and third-party vendors to support installs, upgrades, and ongoing operations.
Key responsibilities
Monitor, maintain, and support data centre infrastructure, including servers, storage, networking, and cabling
Perform hardware installations, decommissions, and migrations (rack & stack)
Respond to incidents, alarms, and service requests, ensuring SLA adherence
Carry out preventative maintenance and routine operational checks
Troubleshoot hardware, network, and environmental issues
Manage and document change, incident, and problem tickets
Support capacity planning and asset management
Ensure compliance with security, health & safety, and operational procedures
Participate in on-call and out-of-hours support as required
Required skills & experience
Proven experience in a data centre or IT operations role
Strong understanding of server, storage, and network hardware
Hands-on experience with rack layouts, structured cabling, and power systems
Familiarity with monitoring tools and ticketing systems
Knowledge of data centre best practices, including redundancy and resilience
Ability to follow processes while remaining flexible in fast-paced environments
Strong problem-solving and communication skills
Desirable skills
Experience with cloud or hybrid environments
Knowledge of virtualisation platforms (VMware, Hyper-V, etc.)
Understanding of ITIL processes
Vendor certifications (e.g. Cisco, HPE, Dell, CompTIA)
