About the role

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Data Centre Operations Engineer to support the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and optimisation of our clients’ data centre environments. This role is critical to ensuring high availability, performance, and reliability of mission-critical infrastructure.

You will work hands-on with physical and virtual infrastructure, collaborating closely with internal teams and third-party vendors to support installs, upgrades, and ongoing operations.

Key responsibilities

  • Monitor, maintain, and support data centre infrastructure, including servers, storage, networking, and cabling

  • Perform hardware installations, decommissions, and migrations (rack & stack)

  • Respond to incidents, alarms, and service requests, ensuring SLA adherence

  • Carry out preventative maintenance and routine operational checks

  • Troubleshoot hardware, network, and environmental issues

  • Manage and document change, incident, and problem tickets

  • Support capacity planning and asset management

  • Ensure compliance with security, health & safety, and operational procedures

  • Participate in on-call and out-of-hours support as required

Required skills & experience

  • Proven experience in a data centre or IT operations role

  • Strong understanding of server, storage, and network hardware

  • Hands-on experience with rack layouts, structured cabling, and power systems

  • Familiarity with monitoring tools and ticketing systems

  • Knowledge of data centre best practices, including redundancy and resilience

  • Ability to follow processes while remaining flexible in fast-paced environments

  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills

Desirable skills

  • Experience with cloud or hybrid environments

  • Knowledge of virtualisation platforms (VMware, Hyper-V, etc.)

  • Understanding of ITIL processes

  • Vendor certifications (e.g. Cisco, HPE, Dell, CompTIA)
